From the moment that Chevrolet's Chevelle was released in 1964 as competition for Ford's Fairlane, Chevy's intermediate became a sales success as well as a fixture of American car culture. With tidier exterior dimensions and almost as much interior room as Chevy's full-size Impala, the Chevelle was similar in size to the classic 1955-1957 Chevrolets and would quickly attain a comparable cult-like following. Our 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS (5837) clearly illustrates some of the characteristics that made these cars great; clean styling, relatively nimble handling, and room for 5 adults. The original 283 ci engine (BCN 3834810, suffix JG) has been spruced up with an Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor, an Edelbrock Torker II aluminum intake manifold, and an aluminum water pump. Additional features and upgrades include power steering, power front disc brakes, Vintage Air A/C with the Front Runner system, TH350 automatic transmission, a newer sound system with Sirius capability, SS wheels, and radial tires. A beautiful dash, clear gauges, and good upholstery further enhance the driving experience. This is a great looking and very comfortable classic that's ready for your next cruise. John Q.
