Ford, including their Mercury division, was the first of the "Big Three" American manufacturers to cash in on the new "envelope" bodies that blended fenders and doors into one cohesive form. Mercury's model, the Eight, proved so popular as customized 'lead sleds' that most of these classics have been altered beyond the point of being restorable. Our striking 1949 Mercury Eight Convertible is a cool example of one of the coolest cars to ever come from Detroit. Yes, junior, just Google 'James Dean'! Lift the deeply sculpted hood and you'll find the correct (8CM) 255 ci Mercury flathead V8 that breathes freely through a set of Fenton exhaust manifolds that empty into a true dual exhaust system.
