This switch stands at an astounding 6 feet tall and still has working lights and clear signage. Derailing switches are still used today as an emergency device, but back in the good ol' days, there would have been an operator for this switch who would pull the switch to route a train down a parallel or separate set of tracks so that another passing train would not have a head on collision if it was coming the opposite way.
